Social Networks Not Just for Kids Anymore

Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn If these names don’t ring a bell then you have been missing the biggest trend on the internet, Social Networking.

What is Social networking? According to Wikipedia A social network service focuses on building online communities of people who share interests and/or activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others.

The earliest online communities brought together young people on services like MySpace and Facebook. Letting users share photos, chat, share files, etc. These services made it easy for individuals to find people with similar interests or backgrounds.

Social networking services geared towards businesses have begun to be popular such as LinkedIn. These services try to act as a business network for there participants. Finding others you have worked with in the past or old school chums is a piece of cake on these services. By particpating, individuals get to meet others that are linked to their friends, thus building a bigger network of contacts.

Other social networking sites are geared to specific topics such as music, technology, media.

There are social networks out there for any interest or background. It is not just for the young anymore.
